An unusual legal case has surfaced in Miami: David Rashidian, an 80-year-old man, claimed to be in a romantic relationship with Shakira and sued her for $100 million, alleging he was the victim of fraud.

The octogenarian stated that the Colombian superstar contacted him three years ago through social media to discuss business, and that over time, they supposedly began a romantic relationship.

In an interview with Primer Impacto, Rashidian claimed that the artist proposed working together on a book and organizing a 100-concert world tour, but later “betrayed” him and took large sums of money.

However, Shakira’s attorneys have completely denied his story, stating that the singer never communicated with him and that this is clearly a case of identity theft.

A Case Full of Contradictions

During a virtual hearing held on October 23 in a Miami court, José Luis Becerra, Shakira’s lawyer, asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit since the plaintiff failed to appear.

Becerra argued that Rashidian had been deceived by an impostor posing as Shakira online.

Despite the evidence, Rashidian insisted that he had not been scammed. He maintained before the cameras that the relationship was real and even claimed that Shakira herself asked him to drop the lawsuit so they could continue with their “projects and love.”

“She told me to forget about the lawsuit and move forward with our plans,” he stated, maintaining that everything was “real,” not a scam.

Shakira Denies the Allegations

Shakira’s legal team affirmed that their client does not know the man and has never signed any agreement with him. They also asked the court to consider the moral and reputational damage such false claims could cause the artist.

The defense pointed out that it is not the first time public figures have been targeted by impostors posing as celebrities to scam vulnerable individuals.

Indeed, according to El Gordo y La Flaca, similar romance scams have involved fake profiles pretending to be Brad Pitt and Enrique Iglesias, deceiving women into sending money or personal information.

In the legal filing, Rashidian accused Shakira of fraud, breach of contract, and elder exploitation — all charges that were dismissed by the judge due to lack of evidence.

The Lawsuit Against Shakira Is Dismissed

Although the case has been dropped, the court left the door open for Rashidian to refile if he presents new proof.

For now, Shakira remains free of any accusation in this case and continues focusing on her music career, while her legal team warns about the growing issue of identity theft on social media.

This bizarre episode underscores the dangers of digital romance scams and how even global stars like Shakira can become the center of false stories that blur the line between fandom and fraud, according to Univisión.
